Opportunity Description: Recruitment of New Members for the Board of Directors General Recruitment Information The Valerie Smith-Reid Fund seeks individuals to serve on the board of directors who demonstrate an active, determined commitment to education and breast cancer awareness. The Board of Directors of The Valerie Smith-Reid Fund accepts nominations to its board to ensure broad community representation and a full complement of skills necessary to fulfill the VSR Fund?s mission, which is to provide a bridge to higher education for students from the Greater Roseland and other South Side neighborhoods in addition to providing education and resources about breast cancer. Interested individuals should possess many of the following skills and characteristics: ? Commitment to the organization?s mission ? Excellent communication and listening skills ? Thoughtfulness ? Analytical and critical thinking skills ? Principled behavior ? Strategic thinking and problem solving ? Visionary thinking ? Group process oriented ? Interest in or knowledge of breast cancer issues ? Interest in or experience with private philanthropy ? Interest in community service Board members are all volunteers. The board's membership encourages individuals of all backgrounds to apply. Persons wishing to volunteer on the board should be able to commit 4-6 hours per month on VSR Fund business as well as assist in raising funds. The average time commitment is 4-6 hours. Specifically, individuals should be able to: ? Attend scheduled board meetings ? Serve on one board committee and attend scheduled committee meetings ? Attend organization functions and fundraising events ? Represent the VSR Fund?s mission and the board?s decisions Nominations Nominations may be made in writing. The board requires that a letter of interest and a resume accompany all nominations. Interested candidates should send requests to info@vsrfund.org.

Scholarships of 1,000 are awarded to seniors to help them pursue their dreams of higher education.
